Humboldt Foundation: LUH popular as a host university

Humboldt scholarship holders like to choose LUH as their host university, especially in the field of engineering. LUH is ranked 11th out of 130 German universities, and even 4th in the engineering sciences, according to the latest Humboldt Foundation ranking. The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy also regularly hosts researchers with a Humboldt Foundation scholarship or award.

Research fellows of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation select their German host university in cooperation with the institution of their choice. The Humboldt Ranking analyses the guest stays of the Foundation's sponsorship recipients and is therefore an important indicator of where international researchers are attracted to. Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) can be pleased with a very good result in the current ranking: it is in 11th place out of all the German universities included in the ranking (130 in total).

A total of 85 Humboldt Foundation scholarship holders have conducted research at LUH over the past five years. In terms of engineering sciences alone, LUH even came in 4th place. The ranking also differentiates the positions according to scientific disciplines.

Every year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables more than 2,000 researchers from all over the world to spend a research stay in Germany. For its Humboldt Ranking 2023, it analysed the selected research locations of 6,480 international researchers who came to Germany between 2018 and 2022 with fellowships or awards from the Foundation. In order to avoid statistical distortions due to the different sizes of the host institutions, the ranking relates the stays to the number of professorships at the respective university. The Humboldt Ranking is compiled separately for the group of universities and the group of non-university research institutions and other institutions.
