Humboldt Research Award Winner Dr. Jianbing Chen

Dr. Jianbing Chen, Distinguished Professor at Tongji University, Vice Director of the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering and Executive Director of the International Joint Research Center for Engineering Reliability and Stochastic Mechanics has won an extraordinarily prestigious Humboldt Research Award to join the Institute for Risk and Reliability for collaborative research.

Dr. Chen is known for his seminal contributions to Uncertainty Quantification in Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Together we plan to develop a versatile theory and technology for time-dependent reliability assessment of large, complex structures and systems, providing the ground for risk reduction and resilient design of infrastructure in the wider sense. This research is associated with key activities in the American Society of Civil Engineers, the European Safety and Reliability Association, the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability and the European Association for Structural Dynamics.

Dr. Chen will visit the Institute for Risk and Reliability for several research periods over the next three years.
