During a two-semester study abroad programme at Tsinghua University, students from Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) were able to gain in-depth insights into research and teaching in China and develop their knowledge of the country. They reported that, immediately upon arrival at the partner university, they were warmly welcomed and integrated into their respective research groups. Consequently, they also decided to hold their Master’s thesis colloquia on site in Shenzhen. The examiners from the Institute of Sanitary Engineering and Waste Management joined the colloquia online. Upon successfully completing the colloquia, the three students were awarded the degree of “Master of Resources and Environmental Engineering” by Tsinghua University.
Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to pursue careers in research and industry in both Germany and China. The Chinese graduate, for example, has decided to start his career in China. Another Chinese alumna of the Double Degree Programme has since taken up a position in Germany. With their dual Master’s degree, students also have the opportunity to continue their studies with a PhD at Tsinghua SIGS or LUH.
