Double Degree Resources and Environment: Successful graduations and international career starts

A sense of relief for the three graduates (1st, 3rd and 4th from the left) of the Double Degree Programme following their successful oral examinations.

This year, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science is delighted to celebrate the successful graduation of two German and one Chinese student from the first (LUH) and second (THU) cohorts, respectively, of the "Resources and Environment" double-degree programme run by Leibniz University Hannover and Tsinghua University in China.

During a two-semester study abroad programme at Tsinghua University, students from Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) were able to gain in-depth insights into research and teaching in China and develop their knowledge of the country. They reported that, immediately upon arrival at the partner university, they were warmly welcomed and integrated into their respective research groups. Consequently, they also decided to hold their Master’s thesis colloquia on site in Shenzhen. The examiners from the Institute of Sanitary Engineering and Waste Management joined the colloquia online. Upon successfully completing the colloquia, the three students were awarded the degree of “Master of Resources and Environmental Engineering” by Tsinghua University.

Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to pursue careers in research and industry in both Germany and China. The Chinese graduate, for example, has decided to start his career in China. Another Chinese alumna of the Double Degree Programme has since taken up a position in Germany. With their dual Master’s degree, students also have the opportunity to continue their studies with a PhD at Tsinghua SIGS or LUH.
